Back to School Sunday

From the day the students walked into the ninth-grade health class, one blackboard was covered with the names and locations of the major bones and muscles of the human body. The diagram stayed on the board throughout the term, although the teacher never referred to it. The day of the final exam came and to the students’ amazement, they came into class to find the board wiped clean. The teacher announced the sole test question; “Name and locate every major bone and muscle in the human body.” Predictably the class protested in unison: “We never studied that!” But the teacher’s response is priceless and memorable “That’s no excuse, The information was there for months.” He let the class struggle with the test for quite a while then he got up from his desk, collected the papers, and tore them up. He dismissed the class with the following challenge “Always remember that education is more than just learning what you are told.”

All around us every day we have opportunities to learn and expand our understanding of life and God’s will for our lives. As the students head back into the classroom let’s never forget that no matter our age we should always be learning, increasing our effectiveness in his kingdom.
