Fear Not

The story is told about Uncle Oscar being apprehensive about his first airplane ride. His friends, eager to hear how it went, asked if he enjoyed the flight. “Well,” commented Uncle Oscar, “it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be, but I’ll tell you this. I never did put all my weight down!” That just about like us isn’t it, we are completely at the mercy of God and his faithfulness and yet we act as though we are somehow still carrying our own weight. We feel like without us God wouldn’t be able to accomplish his work in this world.

The New Testament Church had a very different idea, for lack of better terms they were “along for the ride”, where God led they would follow and what God asked for they were willing to give.

In no way was it easy for them or will that be easy for us either. Famed World War II tank commander General George Patton said, “Courage is fear holding on a minute longer.” If you give in to your fears, you are on the path to defeat. If instead, you stand strong in spite of your fears, you are on the path to victory. And we must never forget that we are not in the battle alone. With the power of God on our side, we will not ultimately be defeated.
