In our warm kitchens, amid the aroma of a boiling gumbo and good conversation, it’s easy to forget that we’re in a war. Every day we find ourselves assaulted by thoughts and suggestions that ease into our stream of consciousness, and not just ours but into the hearts and minds of our families as well. They seem to fit the situations perfectly and work for others around us. So we welcome them, though they may lead to our destruction.
There are a lot of things that disappoint us when we view the state of marriage and family in this country. We may even be dismayed at the state of our own marriage or family. We must always remember that we are called soldiers of Christ, and as such, we are called to fight against the tide of popular culture and embrace the battle to preserve the hearts and souls of ourselves as well as those we call family.
