Giving It All.

You are listening to:Giving It All.

The Church in Smyrna found themselves in an interesting dichotomy. Their home city was wealthy and beautiful, faithfully connected to the power of Rome. But while the city was rich the church at Smyrna was poor, having experienced financial persecution, they were kicked out of the marketplace by the Roman government for their refusal to worship Caesar. Jesus wrote to commend them on their endurance, but also to encourage and comfort them in the midst of a greater persecution that was unfolding. Ultimately they might be called to give up their lives for the sake of the Gospel.

The Lord’s message for His church in Smyrna is the same He asks of His church today:  be faithful unto death.  He warns of the upcoming difficulty, but more importantly He reminds them to focus on the eternal reward given to all who remain faithful regardless of what happens in this life.  Jesus will see to it that God’s children are taken care of.

As we consider this Church we must ask are we willing to pay a price to follow Jesus in light of the price He paid for us on the cross and the promise He gives of eternal life?
