In Luke 9:51 Luke records that When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. It only really takes about three days to walk from Galilee to Jerusalem. But Jesus would take an entire six months for this trip. Along the way he would stop to do teaching and preaching in various cities, sometimes he was met with success and other times rejection.
It appears that as he went, a small company of disciples followed him. Imagine if you were one of those disciples, following Christ as he preaches and teaches on the way to Jerusalem. What would you experience, see, hear, and learn? Over the next six weeks we are going to walk the road together with Jesus through the Biblical account of the final months of ministry, and gain some insight into what Jerusalem meant for Jesus and what it means for us as well.
We know that ultimately for Jesus Jerusalem meant the cross and death, but for us the cross is a source of freedom, we are called to daily pick up our cross and follow in his footsteps. He asks us to follow him. That is a great opportunity and the core meaning of discipleship.
