Beyond Youth
Beyond Youth is a group bible study for college aged students that is based around the struggles and challenges that come up during that time in our lives. It’s generally accepted that from the beginning of a student’s departure from high school through the next couple years of their lives, they will be challenged with figuring out what they will do and where they will go as they begin to separate from the home they grew up in. On Thursday nights as 7:00, we aim to give college students a couple of different things we think are essential at that time in their lives. The first thing is COMMUNITY. Often times college students can feel alone, not because they have no family, but because they feel like none of their immediate family understands the place they are in. We aim to bring students together so that they can build relationships where they can relate to each other and feel encouraged knowing that the struggles they face are struggles that others have in common with them.
The second thing we attempt to provide college students is ACCOUNTABILITY. As Christians we function better when we have others around us that want the same things we do. When we see others who are standing up for what’s right and striving to evangelize, it can be very motivating and encouraging. At Beyond Youth, we challenge students to grow closer to God, and find their place as an evangelist for the Kingdom to other students and people who are at a place in their life where they are searching and seeking who they will be. We strive to do more than just bring a group together for community; instead we try to build up students for the mission of the gospel to be missionaries to the schools they are in.
Lastly, we aim to REVIVE students from the worries and cares of the world. The college years can be a time of great anxiety and stress. Students are changing their majors and facing the reality of adulthood as they try to figure out what they will do as a career. Probably the most stressful question of all for a college student is, “What do I want to do with my life?”. In Beyond Youth we try to provide college students an atmosphere that is relaxed and filled with rest. When I say rest I don’t mean sleep… I mean rest for the mind… A place where they can leave being the cares of the world for a while and sit around with other students who need to leave being their anxieties, and enjoy coffee and fellowship.
As I wrap up I want to point out two main things that we always aim to do at beyond youth that allow us to have the Community, Accountability and Revived attitude that we see the need for in Beyond Youth. We strive to base every meeting that isn’t an event or special gathering around a lesson that goes in depth further than we would in a youth group, and prayer. We feel that the best way to provide the three things we see essential for college aged students is a commitment to learn more about our creator and an attitude that is intentional about casting our anxieties on Him in prayer. Often times we will have a quiet time of individual prayer to our Creator that allows us all to find true rest in a God who cares for us and loves us.
1 Peter 5:7
“7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
We welcome anyone who has just become a senior in high school on up to join us on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. for bible study.
